Systematic racism has been so prevalent and persistent in the United States for centuries. In the aftermath of the Civil Rights movement artists of color have been more willing to confront racism in their artwork. In fact, it is so much in the forefront, that they need to confront the traumas they have faced.

This presentation will look at the work of contemporary artists of color and how they confront racism. The focus will be on contemporary artists, but references will be made as well to artists from the Harlem Renaissance and Civil Rights movement.

Time is allotted for discussion following the presentation.
